Hypnotherapy Pre-Talk
Pre-Talk sets you up for safe, effective hypnotherapy. We explain hypnosis, set goals, gain consent, and agree on simple measures. Kleinmond and the Overstrand. You want a session that feels safe and useful from the first minute. Our Pre-Talk is where trust begins. We explain what hypnosis is and what it is not. We set clear goals. We agree on a simple plan for comfort and control. You leave knowing what will happen, how we will measure progress, and what to do between sessions. This is client-centred hypnotherapy in practice, not theory.
What is a Pre-Talk Hypnosis
Pre-Talk is a short, structured conversation before hypnosis. We answer your questions, gather the right history, explain the session flow, and agree on signals for comfort and control. It is not a sales pitch. It is a joint briefing, so you can make informed choices.
Client-centred Approach
• You set the pace. We never rush depth or decisions.
• You keep control. We agree on a stop signal and comfort plan.
• You understand each step.
Plain language, no jargon.
• You know how we measure progress. Two primary measures and one secondary measure were agreed upon.
What we cover in every Pre-Talk
Welcome and grounding
A two-breath reset to slow the day and help you arrive. Inhale through the nose. Pause. Exhale a little longer. Repeat once.
Goals and outcomes
We write one to three goals in one line each. We define success as daily behaviours you can count on. Example: walk twenty minutes on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for four weeks.
History and safety
Relevant medical history, medications, sleep, stressors, and red flags. If we need to coordinate with your clinician, we will discuss it here.
What hypnosis feels like
Calm, absorbed attention. You hear every word. You can stop or speak at any time. Depth is chosen by outcome, not prestige.
Myths and facts:
Myth: hypnosis removes control. Fact: you remain aware and in control, with agreed exit cues.
Myth: Deeper is always better. Fact: We match depth to your goal.
Session map
Arrival. Grounding. Pre-relax. Hypnosis. Review. You know what happens and why.
Comfort and consent
We set a stop signal, check posture and temperature, and agree on short cycles of work and rest. You choose the chair or couch.
Home practice
One tiny drill to run between sessions. Often, a two-minute breath or a cue card with three calm phrases.
Measures and review
Two primary measures: weekly action count and a ten-point energy rating. One secondary measure: sleep quality or screen time. We review weekly.
Next steps
We confirm the next appointment, share a summary, and answer final questions.
SMART outcomes and simple measures
SMART made visible
Specific. Measurable. Achievable. Relevant. Time-bound.
Example: practise the two-breath reset twice daily for two weeks. Tick a box each time. Review ticks and energy score at session two.
Decision flow you can trust
• Green: you feel calm, goals are clear, no red flags. Proceed with light work.
• Amber: mild anxiety or unclear goal. Extend Pre-Talk, practise grounding, then reassess.
• Red: safety concerns or medical red flags. Pause. Refer or coordinate with the clinician.
How the Pre-Talk builds safety, consent, and scope of practice
Rapport
• We reflect your words back to confirm understanding.
• We ask permission before offering information.
• We use short sentences and check for clarity.
• We co-create the plan so it feels like yours.
Mini scripts we use
• Permission: Would it help if I explain the next step in sixty seconds
• Choice: Would you prefer to sit upright or recline slightly
• Control: If you want to pause, raise your index finger, and we will stop
• Expectation: Depth follows comfort. We will let it come to you
Ethics and scope
• We work within our modality and refer when something is outside scope.
• We avoid medical claims. We describe likely benefits and limits.
• We welcome questions and invite you to bring a trusted person if it helps.
Accessibility notes
• Plain language handouts available.
• Session summaries by email on request.
• Quiet room and adjustable lighting.
